My client is a multinational law firm with over 30 offices across the work, my client has been ranked as one of the most innovative legal businesses across Europe, they are seeking a experienced claims handler to join their Leeds office.

Main function of job:
To take ownership of claims from cradle to grave and be responsible for the investigation, negotiation and / or conduct of defence of allocated low to medium complexity Professional Indemnity Risks claims.

Main Duties:

  • Investigate externally, participate fully in and control individual claim tactics and negotiate settlement of low to medium complexity claims promptly, economically and equitably.
  • Ensure consistent application of client claims and reserving policy so that claims are dealt with fairly and costs are properly controlled supported by the use of the most appropriate approved external suppliers.
  • Take a pro-active approach to investigation, ADR and negotiation to avoid unnecessary litigation.
  • Identify trends and pass on information on risk to the Claims Team Leader(s) / Technical Claims Manager(s) / Operations Manager and insurers to help manage the profitability of the portfolio we manage.
  • Responsible for quality and integrity of the MI provided.
  • Be able to communicate and liaise with Clients, Brokers and our Connected Services.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business objectives of the Firm.

Background/Experience

  • Must have Professional Indemnity claims experience
  • Must have a basic CII Certificate/Award.
  • Working towards CIP/ACII or suitable legal qualification (Essential)
  • IT literate with previous experience of working with a case management system.
  • A knowledge of ECF/CLASS would be ideal.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confident in dealing with staff at all levels of the Firm.
  • Customer focussed and target driven.
  • Evidence of having delivered results in a similar role.
  • Demonstrable technical claims experience and product knowledge.
  • Demonstrable understanding of relevant legislative and legal framework.
  • Effective negotiating and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrable planning and organising skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of relationship management (internal and external).
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as well as being able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to consistently produce work of the highest standard even when working under tight timescales and when dealing with competing work pressures.
