Our client’s independent, SRA-authorized legal business offers services to insured and non-insured clients across various industries. As a Fortune 500 company with over 60 offices in 20+ countries, they are dedicated to a people-first approach while expanding their business globally. With offices in Manchester, Leeds, London, and Croydon, they employ over 60 specialist solicitors. They are currently looking for an Indemnity Solicitor to join their Civil Litigation Department in Manchester.
 
 
Duties and accountabilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Work within a small core team of 4 lawyers, with access to paralegal, trainee solicitor and legal administrator resource as required.
  • Be expected to manage their own caseload, including working independently on smaller files – including recommending reserves and setting strategies – as well as under the supervision of a Partner on larger files.
  • Deliver clear, accurate and pragmatic advice based on both the legal and commercial realities of a client’s position.
  • Be able to identify, consider and advise upon insurance policy coverage issues.
  • Provide clients with an efficient and courteous service at all times that is in line with the firm’s relevant procedures.
  • Be expected to deliver against billing targets and other key performance indicators.
  • Supervise, and delegate tasks to, junior colleagues and administrative support staff where appropriate.
  • Be expected to assist in the growth of the team and the introduction of new business to the department by establishing, developing and maintaining corporate and individual client relationships – both internally and externally.
  • Be given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the insurance industry and the contribution an insurance panel law firm can make to the success of a large insurance company.

Skills, knowledge and experience
The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous legal insurance experience and knowledge of legal/insurance relationships and their interaction. That experience will ideally arise from dealing with professional indemnity insurance claims (preferably from a defendant’s perspective). The candidate may well come from an established insurance-focused firm or team.
  • Have previous experience of dealing with a wide range of disputes in the construction sector, including knowledge of the pre-action protocol for construction and engineering disputes and TCC procedure, with an understanding of the technical nature of such disputes.

OR

  • Have previous experience of dealing with disputes involving professionals in the technology and media sectors, with an understanding of the technical nature of such disputes.

•      Be accomplished in dealing with claims across a wide range of values and against all different types of opponents (e.g. litigants in person, solicitors, large corporations, etc).

  • Be accustomed to running their own caseload under supervision.
  • Be able to demonstrate technical excellence.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workload.
  • Be able to work under pressure.
  • Have good IT skills, certainly with experience in using Microsoft Office 2010 and legal case management systems (preferably Partner for Windows).
  • Have some business development experience.
  • Embrace the challenge of expanding their knowledge into new areas of law.
  • Demonstrate first-class client care and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Have high attention to detail and accurate case management skills.
  • Be an effective team player, demonstrating a positive ‘can do’ attitude and displaying co-operative interaction with team members.
