We're looking for an experienced, motivated, and technically strong Fee Earner to join our busy and growing Housing Disrepair team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Law Graduate, accomplished Fee Earner or Paralegal who is looking to develop their career within a fast-paced, varied, and resilient legal practice.

You'll take ownership of a caseload of Housing Disrepair claims from initial review and preparation through to settlement, with appropriate cases being transferred to our litigation team. You'll play an important role in ensuring clients receive a high-quality service while progressing cases efficiently, accurately and in line with our technical processes and quality standards.

Housing Disrepair experience would be advantageous, but it's not essential. What matters most is your personality, tenacity, attention to detail and desire to succeed.

The Role

As a Housing Disrepair Pre-Litigation Fee Earner, you will:

 

  • Manage a caseload of Housing Disrepair claims from initial review through to settlement or transfer to the litigation team.
  • Provide a consistently high level of client service and maintain positive relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Draft, review, and submit professional correspondence by letter and email.
  • Conduct telephone discussions and negotiations with clients, third-party solicitors, and insurers to achieve appropriate and timely settlements.
  • Manage key dates, deadlines, SLAs and KPIs effectively.
  • Work within a process-driven, volume environment while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Keep case management systems fully up to date, ensuring all activities are accurately recorded and time is captured.
  • Manage client expectations by clearly explaining the claims process, decisions, and next steps.
  • Where appropriate, explain the court process and the importance of complying with court directions.
  • Progress all client work efficiently and effectively in accordance with departmental targets, procedures, quality standards, and the SRA Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain accurate billing and management information to ensure clear visibility of your caseload.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, team leaders, management, and administrative staff, as well as suppliers, external organisations, and work sources.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the department through best practice, continuous improvement and initiatives designed to enhance the client experience.

You'll ideally have:

 

  • Experience as a Fee Earner or Paralegal, or a Law degree/related legal qualification.
  • Housing Disrepair experience is desirable, but full training will be considered for the right candidate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong telephone and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise effectively in a busy environment.
  • The ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • Confidence working towards targets, SLAs and KPIs.
  • A willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes full in-house training is provided.
  • A professional approach to client correspondence, telephone calls, and case management.
  • The drive and ambition to meet and exceed targets.
  • Personality and tenacity you'll need both to thrive in this role.
