A highly respected UK law firm is looking for an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsperson to join their dynamic Core Services team on a 9–12 month fixed-term contract. This is a rare opportunity to work on high-value commercial litigation matters, in a role offering both flexibility and professional challenge.

The Opportunity
You’ll play a key role in delivering strategic and high-quality costs support across a range of civil and commercial litigation cases. Working within a collaborative, forward-thinking team, you’ll also have access to excellent resources and support, including legal project management specialists and paralegal assistance.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing bills of costs, N260 forms, and Precedent H documentation
  • Advising on solicitor/client and third-party costs
  • Managing a caseload of inquiry and commercial litigation work
  • Supervising a small team of paralegals (3 people)
  • Collaborating with senior lawyers and embracing tech-driven solutions
  • Driving innovation within the firm’s costs processes

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates with a commercial mindset and strong technical knowledge in costs law and practice:
For Costs Lawyers:

  • Qualified Costs Lawyer (ACL)
  • Extensive experience in commercial/civil litigation costs
  • Strategic, proactive, and confident engaging with senior stakeholders

For Costs Draftspeople:

  • 5+ years’ experience in costs drafting
  • Proven commercial litigation experience (non-PI focus)
  • Strong legal knowledge and attention to detail

For Both:

  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Team leadership and supervision capabilities
  • Collaborative approach and tech-savvy attitude

This role is ideal for a confident costs professional seeking a short-term, high-impact position with a respected legal name, without the pressure of long-term commitment.
