A highly respected UK law firm is looking for an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsperson to join their dynamic Core Services team on a 9–12 month fixed-term contract. This is a rare opportunity to work on high-value commercial litigation matters, in a role offering both flexibility and professional challenge.
The Opportunity
You’ll play a key role in delivering strategic and high-quality costs support across a range of civil and commercial litigation cases. Working within a collaborative, forward-thinking team, you’ll also have access to excellent resources and support, including legal project management specialists and paralegal assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing bills of costs, N260 forms, and Precedent H documentation
- Advising on solicitor/client and third-party costs
- Managing a caseload of inquiry and commercial litigation work
- Supervising a small team of paralegals (3 people)
- Collaborating with senior lawyers and embracing tech-driven solutions
- Driving innovation within the firm’s costs processes
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates with a commercial mindset and strong technical knowledge in costs law and practice:
For Costs Lawyers:
- Qualified Costs Lawyer (ACL)
- Extensive experience in commercial/civil litigation costs
- Strategic, proactive, and confident engaging with senior stakeholders
For Costs Draftspeople:
- 5+ years’ experience in costs drafting
- Proven commercial litigation experience (non-PI focus)
- Strong legal knowledge and attention to detail
For Both:
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently
- Team leadership and supervision capabilities
- Collaborative approach and tech-savvy attitude
