I’m working with a well-established, award-winning law firm with a strong reputation for criminal defence, who are looking to add Duty Solicitors to their Crime Team in Leeds.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Criminal Defence Solicitor to join a busy, supportive and growing team, with genuine opportunities for progression and development.

The Role

You’ll be joining an established Crime Team and will be involved across a broad range of criminal defence work.

Your day-to-day role will include:

  • Representing clients detained at Police Stations
  • Managing your own caseload of criminal defence matters across a wide range of offences
  • Providing advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court, including summary trials
  • Crown Court advocacy where you hold Higher Rights
  • Providing a high level of client care throughout the life of each case
  • Working closely with colleagues across the wider Crime Team

About You

You’ll be a Criminal Defence Solicitor with at least 1 year's PQE, with solid experience across criminal matters.

Duty accreditation is preferred but isn’t essential — if you’re not currently accredited, the firm is happy to consider you and will support you in obtaining your accreditation.

  • A confident advocate with strong communication skills
  • Comfortable managing a demanding caseload with minimal supervision
  • Pragmatic, professional and positive in their approach
  • Passionate about publicly funded criminal defence work
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently, but equally happy being part of a team
  • Confident using IT and case management systems
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
  • Strong when it comes to client care and building positive working relationships

Salary: £37,000 – £47,000 depending on experience
