An established criminal defence practice is looking for a Criminal Defence Solicitor to join its Crime Team in Margate.

The firm welcomes applications from solicitors who are passionate about criminal law, enjoy working directly with clients and want to continue developing their expertise within a busy criminal defence practice.

Both full-time and part-time applications are welcome.

The role

You will manage a varied criminal defence caseload, advising and representing clients throughout the criminal justice process, including attending police stations and courts across the local area.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a caseload of criminal defence matters from initial instruction through to resolution.

• Advising clients on criminal charges, evidence, procedure and their available legal options.

• Attending police stations to provide legal advice and representation.

• Representing clients in court and conducting advocacy in the Magistrates' Court, including trials where appropriate.

• Preparing case papers, reviewing evidence and developing effective defence strategies.

• Liaising with counsel, clients, courts and other relevant professionals.

• Maintaining accurate case files and ensuring compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.

About you

We are keen to hear from a qualified solicitor with criminal law experience and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent client care.

You will ideally have:

• Around 1–3 years' post-qualification experience in criminal law.

• Experience managing a criminal defence caseload.

• A strong understanding of criminal law and procedure.

• Excellent client care, communication and advocacy skills.

• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

• Duty Solicitor status, or the ability and willingness to work towards it, where appropriate.
