Paralegal – Child Care Law | Leicester | Flexible Working

I’m working with a well-established national and Legal 500 top tier law firm that places people—both staff and clients—at the heart of everything they do. They’re currently looking to grow their Child Care team in Leicester and have an exciting opportunity for paralegals with a genuine interest in this area of law.
The Role:
As a paralegal in the Child Care department, you’ll be involved in a wide variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as a first point of contact for care clients, handling new case enquiries and supporting clients when the team is in court
  • Managing diaries and setting up client appointments
  • Supporting solicitors with client communication, instructions, and follow-ups
  • Attending client meetings under supervision and taking notes
  • Providing general administrative support to the team
  • Handling case management tasks: opening files, completing conflict checks, liaising with counsel/experts, and managing disbursements
  • Assisting with applications (e.g. C2 applications, court fee requisitions) and coordinating DNA/drug testing processes
  • Preparing trial bundles and assisting with trial preparation
  • Closing files and maintaining LAA portal systems
  • Drafting legal documents, court papers, and correspondence
  • Attending court and client meetings with fee earners and taking detailed notes

What They’re Looking For:
Skills & Knowledge:

  • Clear, confident communication with a professional phone manner
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management
  • Strong typing and letter-writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of legal processes, particularly in family/care law, is advantageous
  • Experience using case management systems and the Legal Aid Agency’s CCMS portal is desirable

Experience:

  • Previous experience in legal administration or as a paralegal, ideally within a Family/Care law team
  • Legal research and the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Familiarity with legal aid billing and procedures is a plus
