Child Care Solicitor – Hybrid Working – Up to 10 Years PQE

About the Role
You’ll manage your own caseload of child care matters, representing parents, grandparents, extended family members, and children (either directly or through their CAFCASS-appointed Guardian). The role includes both private and public law work, as well as legal aid matters. You’ll also contribute to the development of the team, support junior staff, and play a part in the firm’s growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload with minimal supervision
  • Preparing court bundles, instructing counsel, and attending/undertaking advocacy in court
  • Handling Legal Aid and CCMS procedures from start to finish
  • Drafting legal documentation, including witness statements and evidence preparation
  • Working on a full range of child care cases including Care Orders, Supervision Orders, EPOs, Placement Orders, SGOs, Adoption, Child Protection Conferences, Domestic Abuse cases, and more
  • Supervising and mentoring junior team members (trainees, caseworkers, paralegals)
  • Providing exceptional client care, particularly with vulnerable clients
  • Taking part in business development and client relationship building
  • Staying updated with relevant legislative changes and legal developments

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Child Care Solicitor (1–10 years PQE)
  • Children Panel Accreditation (highly desirable)
  • Strong experience in Legal Aid and child protection law
  • Comfortable handling complex and sensitive cases
  • Skilled in advocacy, drafting, and client communication
  • Supportive, approachable, and team-oriented
  • Commercially aware with an ability to identify and pursue business opportunities
  • IT proficient and familiar with legal case management systems
