Head of Family Law 
Location: Birmingham

An award-winning Legal 500 Top Tier firm is seeking a dynamic and experienced Family Solicitor to join its Birmingham office as Head of Department. This is a standout opportunity for a senior legal professional to take on a strategic leadership role, overseeing a well-regarded Family Law team with a mix of privately funded and Legal Aid Agency (LAA) matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Family Law department, ensuring excellence in service delivery and regulatory compliance
• Handle a caseload of private children law matters (residence, contact, relocation, etc.) alongside some LAA-funded cases
• Supervise and mentor junior team members, promoting development and consistency across the department
• Play a key role in business development and strategy for departmental growth
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, external partners, and referral networks
• Oversee LAA billing, compliance, and cost control procedures

Candidate Profile:

• Qualified Solicitor with 5+ years’ PQE in Family Law
• Solid experience in both privately funded and publicly funded family matters
• Demonstrable expertise in private children law (non-DV focused)
• Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
• Strong understanding of LAA processes, billing, and financial management
• Commercially aware with a proactive, strategic mindset

Desirable:

• Panel membership (e.g., Resolution, Family Law Panel)
• Strong professional network within Birmingham or the West Midlands
